Oh man— you already know how it goes by now, for those tuned in and following along anyway, concluding another noteworthy weekend, conquering the travels from Newmarket, Ontario, to Mirabel, Quebec. Running with a partner in crime— car enthusiast Behn Ferguson proves a solid stance function with his modified 2000 Volkswagen Jetta MK4 VR6, making a second trip for 10 hours, there and back.

Impressive to say the least, and a kudos to him for the safe excursions and turning up with the project car compared to earlier years in 2014 and 2015. As a hobbyist photographer out to capitalize on car photography experiences, the days were long in the summer sun with the Sony A300 glued to my face, then waiting for Behn and John to raise their static suspensions, or change to discreet wheels. There was no more of that, where I was proud to see the progress behind the vehicle.

For car culture experiences alongside the car show and auto event coverage, we turned up for SoClean.TM Round 4.0. As this Quebec-based car club has been reaching Ontario, the love has been authentic, and we thought we would experience the car culture residing within.

Let it be known, the car scene in this region of Canada merely did not disappoint as a hobbyist photographer and car enthusiast. The venue of Autodrome St-Eustache did not disappoint either, while project cars laid frame on a nicely paved and flowing racetrack— the quantity was on point through the quality. While experiencing new stance cars, it was refreshing to encounter the calibre of the car show altogether.

You can jump to the coverage below, or learn more about the general spirit behind the SoClean TM shows. As pure and authentic as the atmosphere was for an English-only-speaking Canadian, I only hope to support these hosts by sharing history, its routes and further information!

The SoClean.TM Round 4.0 Experience

The Origins and Evolution of SoClean.TM

The SoCleanTM series of auto shows began through weekly routine meets, taken to the next level through dedicated car enthusiasts throwing it down at the Autodrome St‑Eustache in Quebec.

New measures needed implementation because public parking could not contain the hype, where the organizer, Massimo, had already run weekly car meets in Montreal, where those in the car scene would classify them as casual weekly pop-up meets. As the turnout escalated, Massimo was determined to take it to the next level, where there was no questioning the demand for a thoroughly organized car show, becoming an annual tradition to celebrate through one grand banger.

SoCleanTM Round 3.0 fell on July 3rd, 2016 (www.montrealracing.com), as Round 4.0 fell on July 2nd, 2017, which both took place at the Autodrome St-Eustache. The commitment of local car enthusiasts took this auto event to new extremes, where car clubs from across Quebec came to participate through classes, judges and award ceremonies. SoCeanTM shows have become known in Ontario and the United States as a renowned festival-style car show with extensive entertainment and sheer culture.

Custom car owners and project car builders lock in year-round to mould their vehicles in hopes of competing on the SoCleanTM grounds- attracting those through their show-and-shine competition, burnout demonstrations, drag and drift exhibits, live DJ and food vendors.

In the 2014 event, SoCleanTM offered many contest categories – for example, Best Crew, Best Euro, Best JDM/KDM, Best Domestic, Cleanest Engine, Most Original Wheels, Best Burnout, Best Cutoff, Limbo, Sexiest Girl, and People’s Choice– reflecting both style and performance. Many regional car clubs participated “to compete, which always adds a nice ambiance”. Photographs from MontrealRacing.com show that attendees “had a blast” with colourful custom cars and lively competitions.

Attendees frequently share excitement (“24 days left til the big event” and similar countdowns on Social Media) and images of the lineup of cars. Public comments are mixed: many car enthusiasts praise the show’s atmosphere and constitution, while others criticize extreme modifications. For example, a MontrealRacing.com forum thread reports one visitor calling it a “cool event… some nice cars”, whereas another commenter wrote he saw “some nice cars… and a lot of things I just don’t understand why people would do to a car”. In summary, fan reaction is passionate but polarizing – reflective of the broader “tuning” community.

On social platforms, the SoCleanTM show enjoys enthusiastic promotion and fan engagement. The Instagram account (@soclean.mtl) has thousands of followers who post photos of their cars and event flyers under hashtags like #SoCleanMTL and #SoCleanShow.

Autodrome Saint‑Eustache (Quebec)

The original auto event venue of the SoCleanTM show is the Autodrome Saint‑Eustache, a historic multi‑track motorsport facility northwest of Montreal. Located in Saint‑Eustache, Quebec, the site opened in 1964 initially as Montreal International Speedway. Featuring a 0.4‑mile (4/10‑mile) semi‑banked oval and drag strip, and later (1971) a 1.1‑mile road course, renamed Circuit Deux-Montagnes.

Over its history, it hosted many racing disciplines: stock‑car events (NASCAR North/ACT series), drag racing, motorcycle road races, drifting (Formula D), off‑road festivals (Diesel Fest), and enthusiast drives. The facility was owned and expanded by promoter Claude Aubin from 1983, under whom it ran more than 160 event days a year, including drifting and private track days.

Despite its long pedigree, Autodrome St‑Eustache closed in 2019 amid regional development. Noise complaints from nearby housing led Hydro‑Québec to purchase and dismantle the complex. The sale agreement, signed in 2018, specified that 2019 would be the final year of competition at the track.

The legacy lives on in history – for example, MontrealRacing.com named SoCleanTM Show 2014 one of the “Top 10 memorable events” at St‑Eustache.
